I’m starting a new Real Estate Directory - it’s a work in progress at this point, with just a free (lame) template using the PHP link directory script. I’ll get a snappy design up there soon. I know a directory isn’t exactly web 2.0, so there’s no wow factor (yet), but I think there’s room for one more real estate directory, especially a quality one. There’s millions of real estate agents across the United States, and they need links. I think directories are still in demand.
I don’t want this to just be a link farm, however. Consumers need a lot of advice on real estate, as it is a complicated, high-value transaction, and most people are clueless when they first start out (I had to buy and sell a house, and buy another, before I started getting a clue). As such, I’d like to make available basic real estate guides for buying and selling your home. The need for such information is out there.
Real Estate agents and professionals need help, too, so I plan to provide guides for real estate webmasters. There’s quite of bit of misinformation out there about SEO and how you should go about building your website, and real estate webmasters are hungrily looking to find the right information on these topics. Agents know they need a web presence and maybe a little bit of SEO/marketing, but they don’t know where to start. I’ve learned quite a bit over the past year, so I’ll be making that information available via the directory as well.
The directory will be free and paid for submissions. I plan to have several submission options, with one option always (hopefully) being free (supported by adsense). Paid and sponsored listings will have get additional benefits, such as additional deeplinks.
So what are my goals with this directory over the next year (2008 is looming, so this feels like it should be something like a New Year’s resolution post…)? Let’s go ahead and blog ‘em:
- Quality link directory for real estate websites, meaning that only quality real estate related resources are accepted into the directory (no spam or Made For Adsense sites).
- Home Buyer and Sell Guides.
- Real Estate Webmaster Guides (installing wordpress, SEO, etc).
- Add a blog and forum.
- Page 1 of Google for “Real Estate Directory.”
- Profitable. The directory should at least pay for itself.
- Free. Keep at least one option as free for submissions.
Those are fairly hefty goals, taken in aggregate. Page 1 of Google for “real estate directory” (no quotes used when searching) will be particularly challenging (I’m not even in the top 500 results right now…or 600…or 700…), but it’s doable. This will be a test of my SEO ability, for sure!
So, wish me luck (whoever’s reading) as I build a quality real estate resource.
