You’re probably aware that there was a full lunar eclipse the other night (Wednesday). I was able to capture a great picture as the moon was totally engulfed by the Earth’s shadow:

Hey, it was dark.

And in case you’re wondering, yes, this IS an actual picture I took of the eclipse.

Here’s a cool little game you can play: NLOS Cannon Game.

The NLOS (which stands for Non Line of Sight) Cannon is the US Army’s next generation of 155mm self-propelled howitzer. If you don’t know how big a 155 is, just suffice to say it makes a BIG boom! Here’s a pic of the cannon being test fired:

The NLOS Cannon has several advantages over the currently fielded self propelled howizters:

• Reduced crew - only 2 are needed to operate the vehicle.
• Increased Rate of Fire.
• The gun is automated.
• Weighs 18 tons, which is about half or a third of other vehicles it would replace.
• Quickly switch ammo types on a round by round basis, so it could fire 1 high explosive, followed by smoke, followed by an illumination round, for example.
• Networked for quick response fire support.

Anyways, the game is fun; I actually completed all 15 levels on the 3rd try. It’s free and there’s no ads, so give it a shot (no pun intended)!

I stumbled on this blog today, and he’s got a countdown counter in his sidebar that I thought was pretty funny. George Bush Countdown: The End of an Error:

Joe was the first and only one who wished me a happy (belated) birthday, so the least I could do is link to this funny he made up - save money with online degrees (sorry, no link - looks like he made some website changes):

SUX is the airport code for Sioux City Airport in Sioux City, Iowa. Sioux City officials have been trying for years to get the airport code changed (for obvious reasons). They petitioned, unsuxessfully , to have the code changed in 1988 and 2002. Airport trustees turned down several alternatives offered by the FAA - GWU, GYO, GYT, SGV, and GAY - imagine that…

Since they couldn’t beat ‘em, they joined ‘em. ‘Fly SUX’ is now part of their marketing campaign: www.flysux.com. You can even get Fly SUX tshirts and hats.

I predict this is going to be totally positive for them - how could it not be? It’s been featured in the news the last several days. Anything that gets people talking…

And it could be worse. Here’s some real airport codes that you wouldn’t want:

• ACK - The sound passengers make when they see this Nantucket, Mass. airport.
• STD - Forego the Mile High Club temptation while flying into Santo Domingo.
• POT - The most relaxing airport in the world (Ken Jones, Port Antonio).

and the absolute worst:

• DIE - If I ever go to Madagascar, I’m going by boat.

Those are pretty bad. But it could be worse, if not for that last one. Check out these hypothetical airport codes:

• WTF - WTF?!?
• OMG - “WHAT did the pilot just say?” 
• KIA - “Don’t worry about crashing; You’re dead long before you hit the ground.”
• DOA - “We’ll get you there, even if it kills you.”
