We were promised accountability. We were promised transparency. Obama’s administration was hailed as the Most Competent Evah.

That’s a triple-decker CRAP SANDWHICH.

Vice President Joe Biden said on a Monday conference call with reporters that it was “above [his] pay grade” to explain in detail the methodology the White House uses to estimate the number of jobs created or saved by the economic stimulus legislation, but stressed that there had been no “reasonable” challenges to the estimates.

During the call, Biden said that the stimulus package, which was signed into law in February, saved or created 150,000 in its first 100 days, and he outlined White House plans to accelerate the pace so that 600,000 more jobs will be saved or created in the second 100 days this summer.

Asked by Jonathan Riskind of the Columbus Dispatch to explain how the White House determined these numbers, Biden said that the Council of Economic Advisers makes its estimates based on measuring what the U.S. employment level would have been without the stimulus, and then comparing it to the nation’s actual employment level.

“I’m sorry I’m not an economist,” Biden said as he was describing the methodology. “My background is foreign policy and the constitution.”

Nobody in the administration has any clue how many jobs have been created or “saved.” They say “created or saved” because they know the numbers they produce cannot be verified or disproved, thinking that will allow them to get away with it. It’s an intentional dishonesty in order to ‘buy’ votes at taxpayer expense at a time when our economy is in the craphole.

Utterly contemptible.

This just completely pisses me off about this whole TARP CRAP Sandwhich:

Obama’s transparency czar is using $84 million to build a web site that won’t be usable until October, and may not be useful until four years from now.

Obama’s stimulus oversight guru, Joe Biden, says “people are being scammed already” in the disbursement of $787 billion.

And, when asked whether TARP is working, Prof. Elizabeth Warren— head of the Congressionally formed oversight committee for that particular trillion-dollar project—says:

WHO KNOWS???

Q: Do you have a clear sense of what the overall TARP plan at this point is supposed to do? Are you capable of summarizing what it’s supposed to be doing?

A: No. And neither is Treasury. Treasury has given us multiple contradictory explanations for what it’s trying to accomplish.

Did you catch that?!? She doesn’t know what it’s supposed to do, and Treasury has given multiple, contradictory explanations.

Why did we spend this money? Why did the government take this money from us?

A fine example of how this administration is not only NOT the most transparent evah, but also intentially obscures, overhypes, misleads, dare I say lies to the American public…the Obama administration released a pamphlet this week hyping how they had spent the stimulus money so far. One of the projects was a bit sensationalized, however:

“Using $27 million of Recovery Act funding, a public housing development in Washington, D.C., the Regency House, has undergone a green retrofit. As part of this upgrade, the building installed solar panels, a ‘green’ roof, a rainwater collection system, energy-efficient lighting as well as water conserving toilets, showerheads, and faucets. The greening of this building will allow the Regency House to save money in energy costs, while lessening their impact on the environment.”

In reality, the work done on the Regency House that was funded by the stimulus package amounted to $59,000 in parts and labor, according to Dena Michaelson, director of public affairs for the Washington DC Housing Authority.

Emphasis mine. The administration wants you to believe that it is spending money quickly, pushing money out the door as fast as they can, in order to give the illusion of economic stimulus. Otherwise, what did we spend all the money for?

The reality is that very little of the stimulus money has been spent already, and most isn’t scheduled to be spent until 2010 or later. 2010? Why 2010? Why not now? Aren’t we hurting now? Wasn’t there supreme urgency in getting this bill passed? So urgent, in fact, that nobody bothered to read it before they signed it?

The stimulus bill instead amounts to a spending wish list, intended to re-elect democrats, rather than real economic stimulus. While we were mildly panicking about our economy, Obama heroically declared that he would spend the hell out of our money in order to jump start the economy. We needed this yesterday. Remember?

But what I’d like you to remember, months and years down the road, is this:

• We’ve spent very little stimulus money so far.
• Most stimulus money is scheduled to be spent in 2010 or later.
• Economists are cautiously saying that the economy is showing signs of recovery. Obama himself said in mid-April that “we are beginning to see glimmers of hope.”

In other words, the stimulus had no part in jumpstarting the economy.

It was a spending spree bait and switch.

Using other Obama math, 0 jobs = 25 jobs:

The booklet also mentions the “police academy graduates in Ohio” whose graduation ceremony President Obama attended in March, heralding how the stimulus enabled the city of Columbus to hire 25 cadets.

But this week Police Chief Walter Distelzweig told the Columbus Dispatch that unless residents approve a tax increase, those 25 cadets face the real possibility of layoffs.

Or at the very least, 25 jobs come with the price of higher taxes. Thanks.

So now, several states, and Congress, are considering laws that would require online retailers to collect state and local taxes from online consumers.

Boo. Hiss. The government doesn’t take enough of your money, so they try to find ways to take more.

Oppose it. I don’t care if it’s 1% or 25%. Give it enough time, and 1% –> 25%.

We need to cut spending, not raise taxes. We could literally spend and tax ourselves into ruin, if we wanted to. In fact, that seems to be the course we’re on. The internet tax is not the answer, in any shape or form.

Oppose it, oppose it, oppose it.
